Alaska Bush
Have you ever wanted to drive the “Road to the Top of the World”? Or maybe you’ve
always had the desire to travel to the northernmost tip of North America, walk along
the coastal shores of the Arctic Ocean, and dip a tentative toe in its frigid waters.
Whatever your wish may be, the Alaskan Bush can provide it.

Here, you can take a drive on the Dalton Highway from Fairbanks north and pass
through Coldfoot, Alaska, one of the world’s best aurora borealis viewing areas,
before arriving along the shores of Prudhoe Bay and the town of Deadhorse, home
to Alaska’s Oil Fields and the mainstay for the state’s economy. The Dalton Highway
is a 414-mile stretch that not only crosses the Arctic Circle, but also offers the
chance to travel alongside the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

If driving isn’t your cup of tea, hop on a plane from Anchorage or Fairbanks and
travel to one of the many towns and villages accessible only by air. Visit Bethel,
located in the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, the largest refuge in the U.S.,
or fly to Nome, the endpoint for the annual Iditarod Dogsled Race and a great place
to fill up on the history of dog sledding. If chilly temperatures are more your thing,
take a trip to the Inupiat Eskimo village of Barrow and immerse yourself in a truly
subsistence experience at the northernmost point of the U.S. Whatever you long for,
adventure or the opportunity to experience real Alaskan culture, Alaska’s Bush has
all to offer.
